The Tangkoko Nature Reserve is the place to discover what makes Sulawesi's nature so special. This easily accessible reserve is home to a wide variety of bird species, such as the mighty hornbills, many of which are found nowhere else. It is the last remaining protected habitat for the critically endangered black crested macaques. In it you will find the tiny nocturnal tarsiers, who are not only the smallest, but also the only primates to exclusively eat insects. You might see cuscuses, the only marsupials that live this far west, high up in the canopy. And so much more.

The morning walk starts before sunrise. This is the best time to spot birds, which are at their most active then. It will be almost ten o'clock before you come out of the forest again.
You will enter the reserve in the afternoon accompanied by a specialized nature guide. You will look for the crested macaques that go in search of their sleeping trees around this time. It is also the best time to see the tarsiers that prepare to go hunting as soon as it gets dark.
Want to stay longer? Extra overnight stays start at €25 per person per night for 2 people or more.
Search for dolphins off the coast or view the mangrove forest of Tangkoko from a traditional canoe. The dolphin tour starts at €70 and the mangrove tour at €45 per person.
